It's a Lyrical Matter #1 - United States Of Love

Part 1 of my little blog of keeping track of all my favourite lyrics. This track is called United States of Love, basically was the Love Parade's 2006 Anthem. The Love Parade started in 1989 in Berlin just before the wall came down, it was said to be a political demonstration for peace and understanding through music (yes, I wiki'd it!).

But I get what it means, I think dance music is unique in the sense that no matter what religion, skin colour or gender you are, it's really is all about the music. Take for example; R'n'B or Rap music, people immediately think of black people, big asses or white trash? Yeah? Country music for example, people think of middle aged, white people strumming on guitars wear certain country clothes and a straw/leather cowboy hat? Rock music - predominately white people wearing black no denying it.

Whereas with dance music, yeah people think of people who like dance music as ravers and druggies, but do they think about what they actually look like???? I'm on about the colour of their skin, their religion?? Cos when you think about it, any images in your head, you see all these different groups of people together, no matter what background you come from. I suppose that's why I like dance music, people don't give a crap where you're from, colour or your religion, all they give a crap about is if you are enjoying the music and having a good time.

The Love Parade was held in Berlin up to 2006, then moved onto different cities. The largest amount of people attending the parade was said to be 1.6 million people! Imagine, 1.6 million people travelling from all over the world to dance the day at a free street party! That was until 2010. It was moved to a new city which has a population of about half a million and yet, the year before it, 1.6 million people had travelling to the Love Parade. DISASTER! And disaster it was. Sadly, 21 young people lost their lives when a crush happened in the only entrance to the festival which was a tunnel. The capacity in the arena was full so people were told to turn back but the two forces of crowds caused panics which led to the death of 21 young people and over 500 injured. After this happened, the Love Parade was permanently cancelled. 21 years after it started. Ironic, isn't it? 21 years and 21 people died :( RIP. :(

Anyways, moving on, this was a tune done by Westbam who basically comes from Berlin and has been dj-ing since before I was even born! I only found out the lyrics recently even though I heard the tune years ago. It was the anthem for the Love Parade one of the years and the lyrics are really fitting!

Why are you so quiet?
When our love started this riot,
It's you and I
United.

Why are you so quiet?
When we are so non divided
It's you and I
United.

Why are you so many?
When our love don't cost a penny
You and I
United.

Why are you so high?
Is it because of you know why
You and I
United.

It's you and I
United. (x3)

It's you and I
United States of Love.

Scotland's No.1 Male Barbie

You know all those girls who traspe around Dublin wearing Sally Hansen spray tan but they've applied too much of it that they start looking like Oompa Lumpas? Yeah, you know the kind of people I'm on about. Well it seems that this 'trend' or whatever you wanna call it has started spreading to men too. These men are called guidos. Now frankly this is just riduclous but I've stumbled upon what I can say honestly freaks me out.

His name is Ross, from Scotland (of all places). He claims himself to be the Number 1 Male Barbie and his idol is Jodie Marsh. Jodie Marsh? Jodie fucking Marsh? Please!!!! That girl is the worst person to idolise ever. She wore belts as a top, and has square tip nose. Anyways, back onto Ross. I got a link to his Bebo page and found some disturbing pictures.

Now you're probably thinking oh well he doesn't look too bad, but no. It gets worse.

And worse.....

He appeared on this show called 'Snog, Marry, Avoid' which is shown on BBC3. People are given the chance to have a 'makeunder' and to reveal their natural beauty instead of being plastered with a ton of foundation.

In the first video we get to see an insight into how he dresses, what he does before a night out and how he dances. It's quite scary to look at actually. The second one is before his 'makeunder', people are asked if they would like to Snog, Marry or Avoid him. The third one we see him undergo the makeunder and the poll is done again.

Enjoy watching!

Hotdog Anyone?

Been a while since I posted! So here goes.

This will either be the cutest thing you've ever seen or the cruelest thing you have ever seen.

2008 - How Was It For You?

Well... where do I start? Guess on January then!

New Year came in, things were looking good, had a guy, left school, was much happier for once! Went to Edinburgh with the girls, had an absolutely brilliant weekend. That hostel was class! Ping Pong at 6am in the morning with Scottish guys .. and I mean the real Scottish boys. ;) Twas my birthday a few weeks later... the last teenage birthday! Didn't make much of a big deal of it. Headed out to Schossow who was absolutely fantastic!! I heart him. Spent 3 days in Bettystown Court Hotel which is still one of the best hotels I've been to. Gorgeous hotel, value for money (aka €99 for 2 nights, b&b and evening meal with full use of leisure facilities!)

Trance Energy was next on my list. Went over to Amsterdam which was brilliant. Did a lot more sightseeing than the last time I was over. Went to a sex show which was interesting! I'd definitely do it again! €35 was well worth it! Then came March! Basically did fuck all in March really. Paddy's Day was alright, much preferred to have been home in Donegal. Was busy with redoing the IDYA's website. That took up a lot of my time, and we finally had our launch on the 11th April! Did a bit of clubbing in April, didn't go to the Easter tournament which I kinda regret now! Then May, much the same as March and April.. not much to be said.. nor June either.. Oh wait.. I went to Blackpool with the mother. That was ... erm... interesting! :L :L :L

July... oh god what a terrible start to the month. Firstly, I crashed my car and missed my friend's 21st. Secondly, broke up with the bf. Thirdly, the dog ate my Travelpass, lost a good few quid and fourthly early July basically was shit. Nothing else could have happened that would have made my life worse at that point. But hey! I had Oxegen! 3 days camping in a field! FUCK YEAH! Oxegen was brilliant. Seen who I wanted to see, had the experience of camping and trying to cook sausages on a €1.50 disposable BBQ from Euro World! Best part of the weekend I thought it was! Went to Enniscrone in Sligo for a weekender with a bunch of internet people. Oh the laughs to be had out of that!

Applied for CDS aswell and fortunately I was lucky enough to get in! I was delighted! So I celebrated by going to Electric Picnic for free! :L :L :L Got in with a wristband given to me by a random guy on the last day. It was class! Really wish I went for the full weekend. September came then... I tried a week at a hearing school and decided nope... not happening so I definitely was going to go to CDS. And I'm so glad I did! I absolutely love it!

And so we have the start of my life being back on track once again! I was finally in a routine, was going out with my mates, mates were all in college aswell, was going to gigs and was pretty fucking happy. Went to gig/wedding/gig in 3 nights which had me worn out! Next weekend then I went to Cork for a weekender in Trabolgan. EPIC. I'll say no more. Weekend after that I went to Belgium for I Love Techno. Brilliant. After that, got back into the gigs and then calmed down a few weeks before Christmas. Then I remembered why I hate Christmas. Went out to Kilkenny for NYE which was memorable.. (not).

And so... it's 2009! Wonder what things will happen this year?! We shall see in my 2009 review!
